We were sitting in horrible traffic and she started saying how much she hated traffic and how she always had to sit in it on the way to her work so I kinda interupted her ranting period to ask her what traffic was. She told me that I knew what it was. And I said well i would like to you tell me exactly what it is and she said that it was a whole bunch of stupid cars lined up and not going over like 10 miles per hour. I then asked her what cars were and she said they were what made us able to go all the way to northgate mall to shop for the clothes I needed. I asked her what clothes were and she said something that you are not going to be able to buy if you do not stop asking dumb questions so i figured since she said thing I could stop asking her.

storytelling

Storytelling

I do not think that a character is completely separate from his parts. Yes, there are certain situations that are different but for the most part there has to be some sort of connection to the character. I believe that when you are looking for roles and are researching a role you have been asked to play, you have the choice as to what you would like to portray and there is always a chance to say no. I know that actors and actresses make a ton of money in movies and sometimes they could be doing it just for the money, but in doing that they are still supporting how the producer is making this film and they have the option to say no. Also, you wouldn’t take a part that you are not interested in, even if you are just a tad bit interested.

Interaction with darkness

I do not think that she interacts with the darkness. In Adolescence II, the only structure it portrays is that it is continuely broken into parts of three, and other then that there is nothing. There is no rhyme scheme at all and it is fragmented. The lines could end whenever and however and also begin that way. Adolescence II is also postmodern because it celebrates certain disorders in our society such as drunknness as it shows with this statment, "Although it is night, I sit in the bathroom, waiting. Sweat prickles behind my knees. " She does not have control over some things in her body and that happens when you are become drunk. Also it is a straight disobedient act out of the Bible where God states that no one should become drunk in their drinking. Adolescence II is a postmodern piece of poetry because of its celebration in the disorder and how unstructured it is.

breakdown of words and meaning

Toast

I believe that the breakdown of words and meaning lies in our inadequate system of language and our inability to express the understood in words. In “Toast”, Margaret Atwood says “what is flour? We’ll skip this part, it’s too complicated” and I believe that this is symbolic. She is pointing out that we know what flour is and that is we were to dissect it into its very details it would mean nothing to us. The words we would be left with is something or thing which what does that mean? What is a thing exactly; a thing has no meaning and that is where a breakdown occurs. Also our inability to express what we understand also brings with it a breakdown of words and meaning. A writer once said that “love is when there are a million things you want to say to someone, but when they look you in the eyes and hold you in their arms nothing in life matters other than being with that person at that moment." I believe this to be true because when you start to try and express why you love someone and how they make you feel, the people you are talking to never quite seem to understand completely even though they often know the feeling themselves. Love is something that you can not fully express to other people but rather it is a feeling that must be felt rather than spoken. The breakdown of words and meaning lies in our inability to express feelings we understand and our inadequate system of language.

Toast
Lovingyou.com/quotes

Affected me personally?

Romantic movies have affected me the most in dealing with hyper reality. The first movie is “A Cinderella Story” with Chad Michael Murray, and in this movie he runs after the girl he has his eye on, looks her in the eye and says, “Something I should have done a long time ago” when she asked him what he is doing and then moves in to kiss her. This scene makes me believe or want to believe that all fights in a relationship will work itself out without having to communicate with the other person. It also makes me believe that the perfect man would chase after his girlfriend no matter what the circumstances, when obviously that is not true, but it happens in this movie, as well as many others. A second movie that has affected me personally is “A Walk to Remember” with Shane West and Mandy Moore. In this movie, Mandy Moore asks Shane West to promise that he “will not fall in love with her,” and in the end, he falls in love with her, of course. This quote makes me believe that men will change for the person that they love, that they will do whatever it takes to be with you, and change whatever actions you do not like. It also makes me believe that love can conquer all problems, no matter how big or small they are.

“A Cinderella Story”
“A Walk to Remember”

Hyperreality

I believe the hyper reality affects the American perspective of love and relationships by making things appear to be totally different then they actually are. One example of this is a “model picture in a magazine that has been touched up by a computer.” Having these beautiful women in magazines often brings across the image that all women should look like them with no flaws, when in reality, the models on that page do not even look as good as they are portrayed. Both men and women often compare their partners looks to magazines and fantasize that they would look like them, but that is impossible because not even the models themselves look like that. Another example is the reality television shows we have airing on the network today such as the Real World and Newport Harbor. On the Real World, they portray relationships between each other as constantly fighting and talking behind each other’s back which does happen sometimes but not all the time. On Newport Harbor they express love as going out a couple times and then they fall in love and it is that simple, which it is not that simple at all. I believe that hyper reality has affected the way we perceive relationships between people and love in general.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperreality

Postmodern vs. Christianity

I think that as Christians we do not really need to make a huge deal about the postmodern era. I believe that we should reject the beliefs that the Postmodernisms put into practice that does not fit into our Christianity worldview or our beliefs about Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us to live in this world but not conform to it, which I fully believe in. However, not everything about postmodernism is bad. I believe that life is chaotic and challanging and we should celebrate the chaos and take a look at all the order and disorder in our lives. I also believe as Christians, that we need to understand other religions and beliefs, such as postmodernism, so we will have a better ability to discuss with them the untruths of their beliefs.

Captain Jack Sparrow

Captain Jack Sparrow is postmodern because he can create any situation he is involved in and turn it into something funny. I am kinda scared of old people and like having converations with them especially those at my aunts home because most of them are sick and are mentally unstable. So before dinner I asked my aunt if we could sit by some other people and we did. We chatted with two old couples that my aunt knew and it was pretty entertaining. I asked them some questions and they asked me a ton of questions, like seriously I answered about 300 questions, they were pretty full of curiousity. They were surprised to see me having dinner with my aunt just for the fun of it, I often am eating with my aunt there, and were very happy that they got the opportunity to meet me and talk with me after seeing me there so many times before. I like seeing things rather than listening to them and trying to figure them out. Sometimes the movie is a little weird and the things that are on screen I would not like to see but overall I like the movie better then the book. Also with the book I get confused because there are different people reading all the time and different tones and people who get into and people who do not and in the movie it is consitent. They are in their character the whole time and the same voice over and over. I think that the director did an ok job with the tone and stuff. I think he made it in his interuption and redid some parts to make it a better movie.

art

I am not so sure that art or plays reflect what a person is going through. There are probably some plays out there that are about a person's life or what is happening to them at that moment, but most plays are made up with a little bit of experience mixed in, but not the entire play. I think that art, like paintings, could possibly be about self reflection, but to me art is more something that looks pretty, not a way of expressing yourself. I think if you were a poet, then that type of art would be self reflecting and would be more what you are going through at that moment in time. In Hamlet, the lines that he submitted to the players is obviously something that is going on in Hamlet's life right now, but the whole play is not all about Hamlet or the lives of others. It is just a play to make people laugh or keep them entertained. Nothing self reflecting.

Is Hamlet a Threat??

I think that Claudius thinks Hamlet is a threat but only a threat to the throne. I do not think that he realizes Hamlet's intentions of getting his father's revenge. I believe that Claudius thinks he is a threat because in Act 2, Scene 2, he freaks out over why Hamlet has gone mad but does not seem to care at all about Norway wanting to make a pathway through his land to Poland. All he wants to hear about is why Hamlet has gone mad. Claudius only thinks of himself and what is best for him, and right now, his throne is the most important thing to him and so he wants to make sure that Hamlet does not take that from him. I think he lusted after her and wished that he loved her, but he never really did. In the letters Hamlet wrote to her, he said he loved her and his intentions were true, but he never said why he loved her or what made him fall in love with her. He was never about a relationship with her or even about putting thought into what he said in her letters. Hamlet thought a lot about getting back at Claudius and how he was going to get revenge but he did not put much thought into Ophelia's letter in Act 2, scene 2. As Laertes said, I think Hamlet's thoughts were more toward sexually reasons and more wishing he was able to love her. He might have been using Ophelia to try and escape his destination of having someone chose who he shall marry because of his position in the kingdom.
